How District Energy Is Billed
By the megawatt-hour
District energy is metered in megawatt-hours of thermal energy (MWht) delivered. Your bill combines a fixed service charge, usage charges that vary by season, and a fuel-cost adjustment that passes through the actual cost of producing thermal energy without markup.
Winter usage typically dominates annual cost for heating customers, which is why demand-reducing upgrades — controls, traps, insulation — pay back quickly.
